横浜名所案内（2）日本郵船氷川丸

　昭和５年に作られた氷川丸（全長：163.3メートル、総トン数：11,622トン）は、シアトル航路用に建造された貨客船です。当時の最新鋭大型ディーゼル機関を搭載し、水密区画配置など先進の安全性を誇っていました。一等客室にはフランス人デザイナーによるアールデコ様式の内装が施されています。戦前には喜劇王チャーリー・チャップリンを乗せて世界を航行しました。戦時中は海軍特設病院船として利用されました。昭和35年に第一線を退き、現在は山下公園に係留されており、一等客室や操舵室、大型エンジンの内部などが見学できます。平成15年11月には横浜市指定有形文化財にも指定されました。
